Developmental Editing
A developmental edit is the most intensive form of editorial work — a detailed, line-by-line evaluation of your manuscript that addresses both the large-scale architecture and the texture of the writing itself.
On the big-picture side, it covers plot, structure and pacing, setting, point of view, character development, dialogue and style. Detailed critiques, suggestions and corrections are delivered directly in the document via margin notes and tracked changes, alongside an editorial summary that addresses the larger structural and thematic issues.
The developmental edit also includes a line edit of the text — a careful pass for readability and flow that tightens what's already there. This isn't a hard copy-edit, but it will catch most things, and any gaps are flagged directly in the document with notes.
The service includes a one-hour video call within ten working days of handback, to go through the work together and talk through next steps.
Average turnaround: five to six weeks.
